This new display at Weston Park Museum celebrates the work of renowned photographer Roger Taylor.

In the early 1980s, Taylor gained access into the newly abandoned premises of Firth Brown steelworks. He was intrigued by the scale of these immense, empty buildings and found himself trying to imagine what they must have been like when they were filled with workers, machinery, heat and noise.

If you look closely at his pictures you will discover the ghosts of this workforce revealed by tiny traces of an intangible presence: abandoned tools, official notices, scuffed paintwork and, perhaps most poignantly, the scribbled graffiti of defeat marking a farewell to the workplace.

This display is on show in museum's Picturing Sheffield gallery.
