Four Waterway Walks

Four Waterway Walks

Mexborough Resource Centre,
Dolcliffe Road,
S64 9AZ

The four waterway walks is a series of fascinating short walks. You can walk them individually or in groups. Or you can walk them all leaving transport in Fishlake to get back to Hatfield.

Most of the route is along ancient footpaths and bridleways, many of which follow the route of 2 waterways. The route is very flat. There are rest and refreshment stops along the route.

The area was formerly part of the extensive region of wetland which occupied the flood plain of the Humberhead Levels several thousand years ago. The Levels form the largest complex of lowland raised bog in Britain covering an area of 3318 hectares. Nearby, a large area of abandoned peat workings is managed as a National Reserve by Natural England.

The varies habitat supports a range of plants, birds, reptiles and over 3000 recorded species of invertebrates.
