The Penistone Paramount dates back to 1915 when it was opened as the Town Hall Cinema, and has been showing the best in big screen entertainment ever since!

For the first 15 years the films were silent , the first ‘talkies’ being shown in October 1930. The auditorium retains many of its original features including the balcony and the sprung dance floor, but thankfully not the original seating as capacity down stairs alone was 550 in 1915!

The cinema has had various names over the years, including the Metro for a time in the 1980’s and finally the Paramount when the cinema organ we installed in 1999.

Today much work has been undertaken over the years to improve the building, including fitting new seating; (we now have a total of 351 comfortable seats), providing a bar and up to date projection and sound systems. However many people tell us that what they like most about the Paramount is the very dedicated staff who will be delighted to welcome you to the venue.

The Paramount is also home to the Penistone Cinema Organs Trusts, Compton Paramount Theatre Organ. Originally built by the John Compton Organ Co. in 1937 and holds many organ recitals.
