We at Silkstone have always warmly welcomed visitors to our Club whether they be individual, in a small group or as part of a larger visiting party. Increasingly we are working with Companies who wish to use our facility for their Corporate Golf Days.

In addition to the Course itself Silkstone is renowned for its hospitable ethos and all visitors can be assured of a friendly and efficient service. We have a practice facility where baskets of balls can be hired form the professional and one of the many significant developments at the Club is a large Practice Green where golfers can practice their pitching and chipping. Hire of electric trolleys and buggies is also available.

We have a wide range of attractive and cost-effective packages for visiting parties and we would hope that these will meet the demands of most of our visitors. However we fully appreciate that individual parties may have requirements specific to their own needs and we can always be counted upon to be flexible given enough notice. Any such requests should be directed towards the Club Secretary in the first instance.

Where an Individual Company might wish to run its own Corporate Golf Day then once again the Club can provide strong support to ensure that a successful event results. Once again early contact with the Club Secretary should be made.

We very much value the friendships that have built up over in the past, with visiting groups, and we look forward to meeting friends, old and new, in the coming years as Silkstone Golf Club.

The club moved to its present site at Field Head in 1905. The site at Silkstone was no doubt chosen for its tremendous views in some of the most delightful countryside in this charming corner of Yorkshire but also because of its close proximity to Dodworth railway station which linked it with Barnsley.

The nine-hole course opened in 1905 and was extended to eighteen holes in 1917. The club had used a farm building as a clubhouse until 1927. It was in that year that a new clubhouse was built and the wooden structure of that original building still forms the interior of the present premises. There have been many improvements and extensions over the years. The dining hall and kitchen was built in 1971.The gentlemen’s locker room and professional’s shop was added in 1975 and in 1979 the frontage of the clubhouse was reconstructed increasing the size of the main lounge. In 1992 the original steward’s accommodation was demolished and a new one built.

In 1968 the club purchased the land at a cost of £10,000 and the name of the club was changed to Silkstone Golf Club. In 1973 additional land was purchased to lengthen the course. The club bought land for the practice ground in 1990. The course was greatly improved by the opening of seven new holes on forty acres of newly purchased land in May 2008.
