Ruhaani explore the threads that connect Sufi folk music traditions and both North and South Indian classical music. They draw on the mystical song forms of Qawwali, Nasheed and Nath creating their own unique arrangements. Lead singer Sarah Yaseen, aka Sarah The Sufi has a soulful voice and a zeal for the preservation of Sufi poetry and music. Vijay Venkat is a multi-genre performer and composer who trained under some of the greatest maestros of Carnatic music in India. Our Associate Artist John Ball holds a deep seated passion for Indian classical music, expressed in this project through driving rhythms on the Indian tabla drum and the Kashmiri santoor, an 100-stringed dulcimer.
