Details

The Red House is a bar with plenty of character and a history of supporting the local music scene. It's places like this that give Sheffield the deserved reputation of containing a horde of undiscovered gems.

The Venue
The bar is located around the West Bar area of the city. Most certainly off the beaten track, the pub is found in the quiet and ancient streets near the law courts. These streets were once teeming with life and at the centre of the Sheffield gang wars of the early 1900s. But this is no longer a densely populated area and now factories and workshops are springing up to replace the old housing.

The pub has been completely renovated in recent years and now appears like a good original pub in a good condition. Inside, the area is by no means massive but the layout gives it a deceptively large feel. The layout includes a sectioned off seating area, a very short bar and another space, which can be used for seating or dancing. Outside is a good sized beer garden, which is handy for those who enjoy drinking and smoking at the same time or anyone wanting to take in a moment of fine weather.

The pub has a brilliant, eclectic atmosphere which can change wildly depending on the type of event. You're always guaranteed an exciting bunch of regulars. It can sometimes be very quiet during the daytime but the pub comes alive at night, playing host to live music, djs, sound systems, poetry or even some impromptu performance art.

The venue has a great warmth both in the atmosphere and in the sound when music is being played. Some drinkers might find the pub a bit scruffy, owing more to its location than the pub itself. Despite the area's rough history those days are long gone and this is one of the safest pubs in town. The music policy is what makes this pub special but even without this the Red House is a great place for a relaxed pint at any time of the day.

The food is cheap and simple. It’s not a prominent feature of the pub due to the events that take place.

The range of drinks is pretty limited but very reasonably priced. Bar staff are always jovial and getting served is rarely a problem due to the width of the bar.

A unique pub with a lot to offer. Not many pubs in Sheffield have their own myspace, actively interacting with customers and promoting the bands and crews who grace the Red House.
